Jack Ma is at higher awareness than Robin Li. Jack Ma serves as the Executive Chairman of the Alibaba Group and deals with strategies while Robin Li is still the CEO of Baidu Inc. and manages Baidu.
Baidu still focuses on technology, while Jack Ma focuses on strategies and creating values for this world. Baidu focuses on its technology, while Jack Ma focuses on his philosophies.
The organizational strategies of Alibaba is more sophisticated than Baidu. Alibaba is a group which consists of many brands, each brand is a subsidiary corporation. Robin Li is created new products with so-called good technologies, while Jack Ma is creating brands with his strategies, philosophies, and higher awareness.
A brand is a psychological existence, it can't carry too many products or concepts. This relates to psychological anchoring. For example, when we think about Google, we will think about search, search is psychologically anchored to the brand Google, while you want to attach another concept to the brand Google, it will dilute the original psychological anchoring Google-->Search. When you want to attach multiple concepts to a brand, you are fighting people's psychological nature. The correct way to do it is like Alibaba, creating another independent brand for another independent product, therefore Alipay is much more effective than "Alibaba Payment", Taobao is much more effective than "Alibaba shopping".
The core of doing business is to create a brand, it is not about creating a product. Robin Li focuses on technology because he comes from a strong technology background; Jack Ma focuses on strategies because he has a spiritual background. Robin Li performed well in academia and his early life was quite successful, this convinced him that technically performing well is the key to success thus let him live in the technical world; while Jack Ma didn't academically perform well, and this led him to search why he didn't academically perform well and this search led him to the spiritual world and let him realize how spirituality can influence a person's intelligence.
There are many entrepreneurs in the world consisting of middle-class entrepreneurs and world-class entrepreneurs. Middle-class entrepreneurs have an ego and their main(maybe ulterior motive) goal is to prove to the world and themselves that they are excellent, that they are great, building a great company is just a vehicle to assure themselves that they are great, they focus on taking the credit, middle-class entrepreneurs can be successful, but their middle-class thinking will limit the scale of their success; while world-class entrepreneurs just want to achieve their goals and deliver values to the world, and in return they can get freedom and live a big life in return, they don't want to prove themselves and they don't have the need to prove themselves.
